There is no conclusive answer to this question.
Some people find that four to six short sessions are sufficient. Some people prefer longer-term engagements (more than 20 sessions).

Weekly therapy sessions have been shown to be most effective in building momentum for change. Some people are fine with once every two weeks. When they have made progress, they can schedule monthly maintenance sessions. What is more important is to gather the insight developed during therapy and act on it after the therapy hours.
You get to decide how often you want to meet!

Seeking therapy can be intimidating.
The goal of the intake session is to determine the severity and scope of the problem. I'll assess for any co-occurring disorders. I'll look for potential strengths and weaknesses that will help you achieve your goal. We can decide on therapy goals and the best approach at the end of the session.
